“Tribes stand behind reforms, pledge loyalty to King”

“Amman, May 13 (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah II on Sunday met tribal notables and members of the Beir Al Sabaa, Taamreh, Sawahreh, Obeidiyeh and Jahalin clans as he checked on the conditions of communities across the country.

The King first stopped at tents pitched up by Beir Al Sabaa clan members on the Airport Road, which were bedecked with flags, pictures of the King and welcoming placards. Thousands lined up to cheer the King as community leaders delivered speeches reiterating loyalty to the King and support of the country’s reforms.

Senate member Mohammad Hammad was among leaders who addressed the rally, saying his tribe stood behind the King’s leadership in the current hard circumstances in order to safeguard the country and translate the accelerating reform steps that the King “had begun in the right time” into tangible measures on the ground. Others who took the stand also hailed achievements under the King’s rule that were “made by the Hashemite leadership’s determination and the efforts of the sincere and dedicated Jordanians from all roots and origins.” They said reform had been the state’s enterprise since it was established on the basis of tolerance and human dignity.
