“Access to Khan al Ahmar blocked
\nThis week, the Israeli authorities closed the main
\nentrance of the herding community of Khan al Ahmar
\nin the Jerusalem area, by installing roadblocks and
\nside rails along Road #1. This closure not only
\nblocks the access of Khan al Ahmar residents to the
\nmain road, it impedes the movement of students
\nand teachers attending the only school in the area,
\nwhich serves 48 children from Khan al Ahmar and
\nother nearby communities. The only entrance to the
\ncommunity is now through an unpaved, dirt road.
\nKhan al Ahmar is among 20 Bedouin communities
\nin the Jerusalem periphery at risk of displacement
\ndue to outstanding demolition orders and other
\ndifficult conditions stemming from policies and
\npractices of the Israeli authorities in Area C (e.g.
\nmovement and access restrictions, settlement
\nand settler activity). It is one of the communities
\nat risk of being forcibly transferred from the area
\nby the Israeli authorities in the context of plans to
\n\u201cre-locate\u201d Area C communities without master
\nplans. Much of the affected area is planned for the
\nexpansion of the Ma\u2019ale Adummim settlement (the
\nso-called E-1 plan).”<\/p>\n
