{"id":4660,"date":"2018-09-20T19:35:07","date_gmt":"2018-09-20T19:35:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jahalin.org\/?p=4660"},"modified":"2020-02-10T09:30:57","modified_gmt":"2020-02-10T09:30:57","slug":"european-delegation-says-khan-al-ahmar-demolition-is-a-war-crime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jahalin.org\/archive\/?p=4660","title":{"rendered":"European Delegation Says Khan al-Ahmar Demolition Is A War Crime"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\n\n\nSeptember 20, 2018 3:20 AM\n\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"398\" height=\"214\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jahalin.org\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Image-5.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4661\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jahalin.org\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Image-5.png 398w, https:\/\/www.jahalin.org\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Image-5-300x161.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 398px) 100vw, 398px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p> European parliamentarians from the delegation for relations with Palestine visited Khan al-Ahmar village on Wednesday, and warned that its demolition could be considered a war crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel is slated to demolish the Palestinian village that would also displace over 30 families who live there, in order to build an all-Jewish settlement on its location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The European Union (EU) and the rest of the international community have strongly spoken out against its demolition and the construction of a settlement in that area because it would divide the West Bank in half and end any chance of having a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip with East Jerusalem as its capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The six-person European Parliament (EP) delegation, chaired by Neoklis Sylikiotis, met with village residents and activists who have been keeping a vigil at the village to fend off Israeli demolition, which could happen at any time after the Israeli High Court gave the army the green light on September 5 to destroy the village and remove residents by force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sylikiotis said, according to WAFA, that the EP will continue to oppose demolition of Khan al-Ahmar and other Bedouin communities in the area, all facing eviction from their land and displacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said that the delegation supports the Palestinian struggle for freedom and justice and for self determination and oppose, at the same time, the Israeli occupation and apartheid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the EP will actively work to defend Khan al-Ahmar, stressing that forceful transfer of people under occupation is a serious violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention and is considered a war crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He stressed that the EU is opposed to settlement construction in the occupied Palestinian territories and supports the two-state solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walid Assaf, head of the Wall and Settlements Resistance Commission, said Israel was committing a war crime against the Palestinian people in Khan al-Ahmar by displacing them in order to build a settlement, on their land, that would end any chance of having a contiguous Palestinian state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He urged Europeans to play a bigger role in defending Palestinian rights in these difficult times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>(PNN archive image)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>imemc.og<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>September 20, 2018 3:20 AM European parliamentarians from the delegation for relations with Palestine visited Khan al-Ahmar village on Wednesday, and warned that its demolition could be considered a war crime.
